Artist Statement
"Muxeres" is about the intersections of identity that many womxn face (class, race, gender, sexualty, documentation status, etc.). It will focus on womxn whose identities don't fit into the polarized dominant narrative. The show will explore how womxn use art to facilitate conversations on identity.

About the Curator: Lorena Cruz
Lorena Cruz is a Mexican-American artist from Northern California. She received her BFA from Sonoma State University in 2016 and is an MFA candidate at Cranbrook Academy of Art. Through printmaking, photography, and performance, Cruz’s work explores topics of identity, and immigration. Born to two immigrant parents from Oaxaca, Mexico, Cruz creates work that humanizes immigrants, and challenges the structures that deem them "illegal". Her work has been featured in the Juried Student Show at Sonoma State University, and El Comalito Collective in Vallejo, California. |
